Why did you pick your name?
Toots Mutant is a character in a radio drama that I grew up listening to. She’s a tough, badass, character who doesn’t let anyone push her around. Since I’m a large-type human, I figured “Mutant” would be fitting. I plan on striking fear into the hearts of opposing jammers I’m also a huge Ninja Turtles fan.
Why did you pick your number?
11 has been my number since I played soccer as a kid. It’s also my birthday.
What does your name mean to you?
Rough, tough, take-no-prisoners, hit first, ask questions later.
How long have you been playing derby/playing for the All Stars?
I joined the All-Stars as fresh-meat in March of 2014.
What is your favorite part about derby?
Other than the hitting? Because I really like the hitting. I love getting to blow off steam after a rough work day. It’s very hard to stay grumpy about work when you’re trying to breathe and remember all of the eleventybillion things involved in playing. Other than the hard physical work, and the contact, I love the camaraderie and support of my teammates. I’m someone who hated team sports, and wasn’t friends with many women before derby. That all changed, and I’m constantly surprised by how amazing and supportive our team is of each other.
What’s one random interesting thing about you?
I can recite Lewis Carroll’s “Jabberwocky”, and Edward Gorey’s “Gashlycrumb Tinies” from memory.
